North American stock-car racing series Nascar has linked up with NBC Sports and Boom Fantasy to launch a new free-to-play game where players can predict the outcome of races and win real-money prizes.
North American stock-car racing series Nascar has linked up with NBC Sports and Boom Fantasy to launch a new free-to-play game where players can predict the outcome of races and win real-money prizes.
Nascar Pick ‘Em challenges players to select the driver that will place highest from a group of four drivers at each race stage, as well as the drivers who will finish the race in first, second and third, that in exact order.
Fans that earn a perfect score will either win or split a jackpot prize of $10,000 (£7,950/€8,860).
However, if there are no winners in one week, this jackpot will roll over to the following week and continue to do so until a player posts a perfect score. Once won, the jackpot will reset to $10,000 for the following contest.
Aside from the main prize, there will be $1,000 in guaranteed prizes split among users with the top scores. Players must be at least 18 to play the new game.
Nascar Pick ‘Em will be made available exclusively on the NBC Sports Predictor app and site, with NBC Sports to provide custom content evaluating the weekly contests and races.
“These predictor games are all about increasing engagement and enjoyment; we hope that with additional rooting interests throughout the race, fans will feel even more invested and involved, bringing their viewing experience to a whole new level,” NBC Sports’ director of content Dan Pozner said.
Boom Fantasy chief executive Stephen Murphy added: “The progressive jackpot and dynamic live tracking on the Predictor app will offer Nascar fans a thrilling way to enhance their viewing experience.
“These games are easy to understand and simple to play, and were tailored to the on-air broadcasts.”
Nascar is the latest major sporting organisation to launch a predication app as a way of offering fans the chance to win real-money with wagering their own cash.
In April, North America’s Arena Football League partnered with Chalkline Sports to develop and launch a new free-to-play predictions game, while global sports media agency Interregional Sports Group in May launched a free-to-play betting game for Formula 1, as part of its partnership with the motor-racing series.
NBC Sports also launched Predict the Game, a predictions contest that was integrated into its live broadcast of a National Basketball Association (NBA) game between the Washington Wizards and Milwaukee Bucks.
