Sports wagering revenue in the regulated West Virginia market plummeted by around 148.2% month-on-month to $377,552 in June, while total handle also dropped by 13%.
The revenue total – from June 8-30 – is some way short of the $937,065 that was generated in May, while the overall amount wagered by players was down from $10.7m to $9.5m.
Penn National Gaming’s Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races retained its position as the leading sports wagering venue in West Virginia, posting revenue of $201,618 in June from $5.4m in total wagers.
The Eldorado Resorts-owned Mountaineer Casino again placed second, posting revenue of $154,952.26 from $1.87m in bets, while Greenbrier followed in third with revenue of $21,811 and total wagers of $132,162.
Delaware North’s Wheeling Island Hotel-Casino-Racetrack and Mardi Gras Casino remain inactive and did not take any sports bet during the month. However, both venues agreed to settle various existing bets that were placed earlier in the year.
Wheeling Island and Mardi Gras have not processed any sports bets since March due to an infringement dispute between technology partner Miomni Gaming and rival supplier Enterg Software Solutions.
Delaware North has since terminated its sports betting contract with Miomni, and its online and land-based sportsbooks remain closed. Prior to the dispute, the two casinos had been the only venues in West Virginia offering mobile sports betting.
The launch of a DraftKings-powered app for Hollywood Casino has been delayed by the West Virginia Lottery Commission to ensure the location of the servers does not breach the Wire Act.
