FansUnite has expanded its reach in North America after obtaining a gaming supplier license in Ohio.
The Toronto-listed gaming group said it expects to launch with micro-betting sports brand Betr soon after Ohio legalises sports wagering from 1 January 2023. FansUnite also expects to work with other new clients that operate in the state, which is projected to generate a sports betting handle of roughly $8.8bn during its first calendar year.
In addition to the new sports gaming supplier license issued by the Ohio Casino Control Commission, FansUnite has already obtained a gaming related supplier (manufacturer) license from the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario and has affiliate licenses in more than 10 US states.
FansUnite, which is also licensed in the UK and Malta, said it plans to become a legal gaming and affiliate solutions provider in more betting jurisdictions in accordance with its clients’ operations.
“This license represents a major milestone for not only our US licensing strategy and B2B business, but also our overall North American expansion plan,” said Scott Burton, chief executive of FansUnite.
“The state of Ohio is the latest jurisdiction to legalize sports betting and as a major sports hub, we expect it to generate significant gaming revenues for our B2B clients and our live activation team at Betting Hero. This license will enable us to gain an early-mover advantage in a new market.
“Furthermore, as we secure more client contracts for our B2B solutions and/or affiliate operations, we intend to gain access to new betting jurisdictions where our customers operate; additional state license applications are underway.”
Multiple brands
Along with providing B2B technology solutions, FansUnite operates multiple B2C brands, such as Scottish sportsbook McBookie and Brazilian sportsbook VamosGG. FansUnite is the parent company of North American-focused AmAff, which operates affiliate brands such as Betting Hero.
Last month, FansUnite announced total revenue of $4.95m in Q3 2022, which was a year-on-year increase of 753%. Founder Darius Eghdami recently resigned as director and president of the business for personal reasons.
The Ohio Casino Control Commission yesterday (15 Dec) said it plans to deny a license application from operator PlayUp, after it discovered “potential illegal gambling activity by PlayUp”.
