GeoComply records 100 million online betting transactions for Super Bowl LVII

News

GeoComply has revealed it conducted a record 100 million geolocation checks for online sports betting during Super Bowl LVII weekend.

The game took place yesterday (February 12), with the Kansas City Chiefs fighting back to beat the Philadelphia Eagles 38-35 and become NFL champion for the second time in four years.

This year also marked the first time the Super Bowl took place in a state with legal online sports betting, with the Chiefs and Eagles having faced off at the State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.

According to GeoComply, it carried out 100 million geolocation checks over Saturday and Sunday across 23 US states and Washington DC. This was a 25% increase on the previous year and a new record for the business.

GeoComply also said it registered 7.4 million accounts over the weekend, a 32% rise on last year, while more than 100,000 geolocation checks took place in and around the stadium in Arizona.

The most active state over Super Bowl weekend was New York with a total of 13.9 million geolocation checks, ahead of Ohio, which only opened its legal market last month, on 12.6 million.

Pennsylvania, the home state of losing side the Eagles, had 11.8 million transactions, while New Jersey reached 9.1 million and Michigan 7.5 million.

Arizona was responsible for 6.1 million geolocation transactions, while Kansas, home of the Chiefs, stood at 2.2 million transactions.

“Super Bowl LVII was a record-breaking event; GeoComply data reveals that Americans’ interest in legally betting on the Super Bowl has never been higher,” GeoComply co-founder and chief executive Anna Sainsbury said.

“It also showed that many fans at State Farm Stadium embraced their newfound ability to bet while watching the game in person.”
