Scientific Games Corporation and the Oneida Indian Nation have launched Caesars-branded sportsbooks in two New York casinos: Turning Stone Resort in Verona and Point Place Casino in Bridgeport.
Powered by Scientific Games’s OpenSports product suite, the sportsbooks feature full, end-to-end retail sports betting solutions for over-the-counter wagering and in-venue screen solutions, with self-service betting terminals to follow in the coming weeks.
The sportsbook at Turning Stone will feature a 500-square-foot curved LED screen, as well as LED terminals with high-definition resolution, live odds boards which offer opportunities for in-game wagers, full-service bars, ticket windows and VIP areas with their own dedicated TV screens.
“We’re thrilled to continue our partnership with Oneida Indian Nation and to use our trusted technology to help them reach new bettors,” Jordan Levin, group chief executive at SG Digital, said.
The casinos will be the third and fourth to offer sports betting in New York state after the state gaming commission approved regulations governing sports betting in the state on June 10. The Rivers Casino & Resort in Schenectady has become the first licensed venue in New York to accept legal sports bets on 16 July, with Tioga Downs in Nichols opening its sportsbook in conjunction with FanDuel on 19 July.
“This launch with Oneida Indian Nation is another great testament of our best-in-class OpenSports product suite, with its end to end sports betting offering, our speed to market and our quality execution,” Levin said.
“It marks the fourth state in which we’ve launched our sports betting solution, and signals our commitment to help our customers grow in this ever expanding market. The OpenSports product suite has been transformed over the last twelve months by world-class engineering, product and UX teams.
“It can be tailored to fit the needs of any customer, and this launch, as our first tribal sports betting opportunity in the U.S. is a perfect example of our truly flexible product solutions.”
Oneida Nation Representative and Nation Enterprises, chief executive Ray Halbritter, added: “We’re excited to be among the first to offer sports betting in New York and are confident in our ability to grow this market in the months and years ahead.
“The OpenSports solution allows us to focus on our guests while giving us a sturdy technological foundation on which we can build as the industry expands.”
Once legally permitted, Scientific Games and Oneida Indian Nation plan to also introduce a mobile sports betting solution. State Senator Joseph Addabbo, Jr. put forward legislation to legalize sports betting with a mobile component in New York State that passed the Senate.
However, the bill was not brought to a vote in the State Assembly during the 2019 legislative session with Speaker Carl Heastie and Governor Andrew Cuomo expressing reservations over its constitutionality.
On 2 August, Scientific Games reported a year-on-year increase in revenue for the first six months of 2019, while its net losses for the period decreased from $208m to $99m.
