William Hill launches iOS app in Iowa

News

William Hill has launched an iOS app in Iowa, the first betting product optimized for Apple devices to launch in the state.

Both mobile and online sports betting became legal on 15 August in Iowa, and while William Hill launched an app last week, allowing Iowa to become the first state with mobile wagering from day one, only an Android version was rolled out.

Many gaming companies have faced delays launching iOS apps after Apple announced that it will only allow gambling apps native to iOS to be hosted in its App Store.

“We know Iowa sports fans are looking for both an in-person sports betting experience as well as the convenience of betting on their mobile devices,” Joe Asher, chief executive of William Hill US said. “The William Hill Iowa app gives our customers the ability to access our full sports betting menu from anywhere in the state.

“Our team has worked tirelessly over the last few months to get the platform up and running and we’re proud to be the first sports betting company to do so.”

Players must visit the William Hill website to download the app, and then must visit a William Hill Iowa Sports Book to complete registration and make their first deposit.

With the launch of sports betting in the state, William Hill opened four sports books in Iowa at Prairie Meadows Racetrack & Casino north-east of Des Moines, Lakeside Hotel & Casino in Osceola, Isle Casino Hotel Bettendorf and Isle Casino Hotel Waterloo.

Yesterday (21 August), William Hill announced it will enter the Indiana sports betting market sportsbook at Tropicana Casino, Evansville, pending approval by the Indiana Gaming Commission.
