Sports betting and daily fantasy sports operator DraftKings has signed up as a platinum member of the National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG), the US body that advocates for the treatment for those affected by problem gambling and addiction.
DraftKings will support the NCPG with its ongoing efforts to both develop and implement responsible gambling practises in legalized sports wagering as it continues to expand across the US.
The NCPG focuses on problem gambling prevention, treatment, education and research programs, as well as responsible gambling policies.
“From the moment someone registers a DraftKings account, our top priority is ensuring every user has an engaging, fun and, most importantly, a safe experience,” DraftKings’ chief compliance officer Tim Dent said.
“We are proud to partner with a leading responsible gaming organization like the NCPG to ensure our internal efforts are informed by independent experts.”
NCPG executive director Keith Whyte added: “I am thrilled that DraftKings, a leader in online gaming and sports betting, has joined NCPG. This marks a new era in our work to raise awareness about problem gambling and provide resources for responsible gambling.
“We are excited to work with DraftKings to utilize technology and data to increase our mutual understanding of player behavior and reduce the risks for gambling problems.”
The news comes after the NCPG last week announced its new advisory board, featuring a number of executives and senior personnel from across the industry.
The board comprises 10 individuals across two groups: emeritus advisors and at-large advisors. All members have been voted onto the board by the NCPG’s board of directors.
