Sports wagering and daily fantasy sports operator DraftKings has expanded its partnership with Major League Baseball (MLB) franchise the Colorado Rockies.
Under the deal, DraftKings will serve as the team’s first official sports betting operator, as well as continuing as its daily fantasy sports operator.
DraftKings will benefit from in-stadium branding at the team’s Coors Field home ballpark, as well as have license to use Rockies trademarks and logos.
In addition, DraftKings and the Rockies will jointly develop a new digital content series, featuring player appearances on DraftKings’ programs, podcasts and live videos.
“Expanding on our current deal for daily fantasy sports will only enhance what we’ve built with DraftKings up to this point,” Rockies’ vide president of corporate partnerships Walker Monfort said. “Tying our brand to an early industry leader in the new frontier of legalized sports betting will be a great new endeavor for both parties.”
The expanded partnership coincides with the launch of a new DraftKings retail sportsbook in the state. The facility at the Mardi Gras Casino in Black Hawk, Colorado, will stage its grand opening tomorrow (September 25).
The sportsbook will feature over 40 televisions, large video boards showing the latest betting odds, self-service betting kiosks and a full-service sports bar and restaurant.
Matt Kalish, co-founder and president, DraftKings North America, said: “In the short span since launching our top-rated mobile sportsbook app in Colorado this past May, Coloradans have proven to be among our most engaged customers, which makes our deepened connection to the state through these collaborations all the more exciting.”
Confirmation of the new commercial partnership with the Rockies comes after DraftKings last week also announced a new deal with National Football League team the New York Giants.
