Sportsbook operator PointsBet has entered into a new partnership with National Basketball Association (NBA) franchise the Detroit Pistons, ahead of its launch in the team’s home state of Michigan.
PointsBet will become an official sports betting partner of the Pistons and have access to official team marks and logos, as well as sponsorship opportunities and brand visibility across digital and social assets.
This will include in-game, broadcast-visible digital signage opportunities, in addition to branding across Pistons.com, the team’s mobile app and social media channels.
Three-time NBA All-Star and former Pistons player Rip Hamilton will also serve as a brand ambassador for PointsBet, acting as the face of the operator for its Detroit and Michigan-based sports betting products.
PointsBet last month became one of 15 operators to secure a provisional license to launch online sports betting in Michigan, ahead of the state opening its legal internet sports wagering market.
In July last year, the operator also secured a commercial deal with Major League Baseball (MLB) team the Detroit Tigers, becoming the first sportsbook to partner an MLB franchise and the first to link up with a Michigan-based sports team.
“Michigan is a fantastic sports state, and we look forward to the opportunity to soon serve Michigan sports bettors on a personalised platform with unrivalled speed and ease of use, now alongside both the Pistons and Rip Hamilton,” PointsBet US chief executive Johnny Aitken said.
“We’re proud to increase our investment in the Detroit and greater Michigan sports community.”
The new deal is the Pistons’ third sports betting partnership, after the franchise also secured similar agreements with both DraftKings and FanDuel in recent months.
