Michigan reports record gross gaming receipts in September

Gaming operators in Michigan have reported a record total of $126.1m in internet gaming and sports betting receipts for the month of September.

Online gaming receipts generated $102.4m of the total, up 5.4% from the previous record of $97.2m recorded in August.

Internet sports betting made up the remaining $23.7m in gaming receipts, up 49.0% from August.

Total handle for September hit $354.3m, a monthly rise of 84.2%.

Adjusted gross receipts for online gaming came to $92.3m, an increase of 5.4% from August. However, adjusted gross receipts for sports betting totaled at just $17,399, down 99.7% compared to $7.5m recorded in August.

In total, operators paid $19.3m in taxes to the state of Michigan. Online gaming paid $18.9m of this, while online sports betting made up the remaining $426,873.

Michigan’s three Detroit casinos, MGM Grand, Motorcity and Greektown, reported $5.5m in city wagering taxes and municipal service fees. Online gaming generated $5.2m of the total, and sports betting made up the remaining $263,398.

Last week, the Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB) reported revenue of $110.4m from the land-based MGM Grand, Motorcity and Greektown casinos in September.
