PointsBet Holdings has linked up with racetrack Colonial Downs Group to secure a temporary supplier license to offer online sports wagering in the state of Virginia.
Issued by the Virginia Lottery, the new license will enable PointsBet, together with Colonial Downs, to access the state’s legal online sports betting market.
Colonial Downs is a subsidiary of California-based Peninsula Pacific Entertainment and owns six Rosie’s Gaming Emporium locations across the state, as well as the Colonial Downs Racetrack in New Kent County.
PointsBet’s expansion into Virginia will also be supported through its partnership with NBC Sports.
The operator is the exclusive sports betting partner of NBC Sports and, as such, will be able to utilize the media giant’s premium television and digital assets to promote the PointsBet brand in Virginia.

The approval comes after PointsBet was earlier this month also named as part of one of two consortiums to have been recommended for licenses in New York.
PointsBet, Caesars Sportsbook, Resorts World, Rush Street Interactive and Wynn Bet, along with the Oneida Indian Nation and Saint Regis Mohawk Tribes, joined together to form a Kambi-led proposal.
A FanDuel-led consortium comprising DraftKings, BetMGM and Bally Bet was also recommended.
