Delaware igaming revenue continued to lift in January with handle and revenue rising for the second straight month.
According to figures from Delaware Lottery, which regulates gambling in the state, the three licensed premises generated a combined $738,500 in the first month of 2021, which was up 5.7% on December.
The figure was also up a huge 90.7% on January 2020, with igaming play having grown considerably since last March, when the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic led to a first lockdown.
In terms of handle, Delaware’s igaming operators brought in $21.1m in January, which was up 20.6% on December 2020 and 106.8% on January 2020.
Delaware Park continued to lead in handle terms, and also replaced Dover Downs as the most profitable operator during January. It brought in $9.54m in wagers – which was 39.7% more than December 2020 – with revenue of $295,200 up 15.4% month-on-month.
Dover Downs brought in $6.82m in wagers, with revenue of $277,100 down slightly on the previous month.
Delaware igaming contracted between June and November 2020 after an initial surge in play due to the impact of the pandemic lockdown, which led to record handle of $29.5m and revenue of $1.13m in May 2020.
Delaware igaming revenue soared 133.3% year-on-year to $8.4m in 2020. Players staked $227.7m – up 78.8% – over the year, with high activity levels sustaining after lockdowns were eased.
Video lottery games brought in $6.0m on stakes of $124.4m during 2020. Table games stakes reached $104.3m, from which operators generated revenue of in $1.7m. Poker rake contributed a further $650,000.
