The Fanatics Betting and Gaming division of sports retail giant Fanatics has announced the launch of its online sportsbook product in Massachusetts.
The sportsbook will initially launch in beta mode, with players in the state to be contacted and invited to join the testing program.
Eligible customers will receive a code to gain access to the Fanatics Sportsbook. Non-Fanatics players can download the app and join the waiting list to begin betting.
The Fanatics Sportsbook will offer a wide range of betting options across a host of sporting events and competitions. Players will also benefit from a promotional offer whereby they will receive $200 in bonus bets after placing a wager of at least $5.
The launch came ahead of Game 5 of the NBA Eastern Conference Playoffs. Massachusetts-based Boston Celtics beat Miami Heat 110-96 to take the series to Game 6.
US expansion
The Massachusetts launch forms part of Fanatics’ ongoing growth plans in the US. Earlier this month, Fanatics Betting and Gaming agreed a deal to acquire the PointsBet US division of PointsBet Holdings for $150.0m.
PointsBet will retain its Canadian and Australian businesses and continue as an Australian Stock Exchange-listed company. It will also keep hold of teams in Australia, Canada and India, as well as its Australian-based technologists, traders and quants.
Other aspects of the deal included PointsBet keeping its proprietary sports wagering, racing and igaming platform and be granted a perpetual, royalty-free licence to exploit the Banach technology assets, which were acquired by PointsBet in March 2021.
In addition, PointsBet will provide services to Fanatics Betting and Gaming prior to the final closing of the deal and be reimbursed for the cost of these services.
The deal is subject to shareholder approval and certain regulatory and other conditions.
Also this month, Fanatics Betting and Gaming chief executive Matt King spoke to iGB about the business’s wider growth and expansion plans.
