New Jersey’s igaming market recorded its second highest monthly revenue total ever last month, while sports betting also made a strong year-on-year rebound.

Online casino operators took in revenues of $107.7m in April, down 5.3% on March’s record-breaking total of $113.7m, but up 34.6% on April last year.
Poker revenues made up just a small portion of last month’s GGR total at $2.4m, continuing the steady decline of the vertical after it experienced something of a revival during the pandemic.
Last month’s total represented an 11.1% month-on-month decline but a much larger 52.9% decrease on last April, when many sports bettors switched to the vertical as betting options dried up.
After overtaking long-standing market leader Golden Nugget in March, the BetMGM-partnered Borgata managed to hold on to the number one spot in GGR market share terms, but only just.
Its share fell to 30.4% last month, down from 31.8% in March. Golden Nugget, on the other hand, saw its share rebound to 30.1%, up from 27.9% in March.
Third-placed Resorts Digital saw its share fall further to 18.2%, having already dropped a couple of percentage points to 18.9% in March.
Sports betting handle fell back last month from the previous month, but was up substantially on last April, when there were few sporting events taking place.
Last month’s land-based turnover of $66.8m was down 15.9% on March but compared favourably with the zero handle of April last year.
April’s online turnover of $681.2m was also down on March, by 12.7%, but was more than 11 times higher than last April’s takings.
Meadowlands continued to lead the market by a long way, with a 53.1% market share by revenue, followed by Resorts Digital at 21.9% and Borgata at 12.3%.
