September was a stellar month for New Jersey’s regulated igaming and sports betting markets, with new revenue records set for both verticals.
iGaming Business and Ficom Leisure are pleased to present the New Jersey iGaming Dashboard, providing revenue and product metrics on the state’s regulated market.
The data is updated monthly following the official release of figures from New Jersey’s Division of Gaming Enforcement (NJDGE).
Sports betting enjoyed yet another record-breaking month, down to the rapid growth of mobile wagering. Turnover for the channel rose to $374.2m, setting a new record, compared to $71.3m for retail.
This helped the state smash the sports betting monthly revenue record, which now stands at $37.9m.
Competition in the vertical is heating up, with market leader Meadowlands, partnered with Flutter Entertainment, seeing its share decline by 2.4 percentage points to 44.7%. Its closest rival Resorts Digital, under whose license DraftKings operates, closed the gap with its market share rising to 28.3%.
Coming in third was the William Hill-aligned Monmouth Park with 8.9%, though its market share has steadily declined since hitting a high of 12.8% in June 2019.
Meanwhile the monthly revenue record set by the state’s igaming vertical in August was immediately broken in September, when online poker, slots and table games revenue increased to $41.14m, a slight improvement on the prior month’s $41.10m.
This came despite a dip in online poker revenue, which fell to $1.6m, and was more than offset by slot and table games’ contribution growing to $39.5m.
September saw Golden Nugget further consolidate its leading position in the market, with revenue of $15.6m amounting to market share of 38.0%, up 1.5 percentage points month-on-month. Second-placed Resorts Digital, which is partnered with The Stars Group, also grew market share, to 21.7%.
The top two’s growth appeared to come at the expense of the three following operators, with the Borgata, Tropicana and Caesars Interactive New Jersey all reporting declines in market shares. However, this top five still accounts for 94.1% of all igaming revenue generated in the state.
