PointsBet has announced the appointment of NFL great Drew Brees as global brand ambassador in a deal that will see him receive equity as a result.
In his new role, Brees will feature in PointsBet’s original content, lead promotional concepts and partake in providing sports education and commentary.
Brees – who was selected as Super Bowl XLIV MVP during his career with the New Orleans Saints – is currently transitioning to a broadcasting role with PointsBet’s official sports betting partner, NBC Sports.
“Today is a massive day for our company as we welcome the legendary Drew Brees into the PointsBet family,” said Johnny Aitken, CEO of PointsBet USA.
“We look forward to collaborating for years to come and integrating Drew across our portfolio of brand channels, including linear and digital content, while unlocking unique ways to jointly weave PointsBet into greater sports and sports betting narratives.”
As part of the appointment, PointsBet will issue 202,940 fully paid ordinary shares in PointsBet Holdings. The shares will remain in a holding lock and released in equal portions at 12, 24 and 36 months from the date of issue. By today’s (8 July) price, these shares are worth roughly AUD$2.5m (US$1.9m).
“I am excited to team up with PointsBet, a leader in the future of sports entertainment built off elite technology,” Brees said.
“Sports betting is growing across the county and will positively impact sports engagement, and I am proud to be at the forefront alongside PointsBet and NBC Sports.”
