Oregon Lottery Scoreboard attracts record 23,000 Super Bowl bettors

News

Oregon Lottery’s Scoreboard sports betting app saw a record number of customers place bets on last week’s Super Bowl LV at 23,000, with more than 150,000 wagers placed via the app.

The average wager came in at a value of approximately $23, with the Super Bowl betting total reaching almost $3.5m, the operator said.

Scoreboard offered several proposition bets for the game, including the number of yards specific players would travel, and whether there would be special teams or defensive touchdowns.

More than 3,500 proposition bets on the coin toss were placed, and more than 4,000 were placed on what color the Gatorade poured on the winning coach would be.

Lottery sportsbook product manager Tony Gallenbeck said: “For the big game, there were more than 23,000 unique Scoreboard players,”

“Players took home the largest share of dollars wagered, translating to nearly $700,000 in revenue generated by Scoreboard. The game also prompted nearly 1,500 new registrations on Sunday alone.”

Oregon Lottery director, Barry Pack, added: “With the pandemic, it’s been a challenging year for all of us. Events like the Super Bowl provide not only a fun distraction, but also keeps sports betting dollars in Oregon for important state programs.”

The operator’s Scoreboard app launched in October 2019, in partnership with SBTech.

Results published in January showed that Scoreboard had a strong end to 2020, with record gross gaming revenue (GGR) recorded in November followed by strong levels of gaming activity in December.

GGR in November amounted to $4.1m, surpassing the previous monthly record of $2.8m set in October 2020 by 46.4%.

GGR in December reached $3.1m, down 24.4% from November’s $4.1m total, but the state’s monthly handle was up 8.0% to $27.0m.
