iGaming Business and Ficom Leisure are delighted to unveil the Pennsylvania iGaming Dashboard, providing a monthly breakdown of the latest figures from the Keystone State’s regulated gambling market.
The data will be updated monthly following the official release of figures from the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board.
With the start of the National FootbalL League (NFL) season, September was the month that online wagering took off in Pennsylvania.
After edging ahead of retail in August, online revenue soared month-on-month to $9.3m, outstripping the $5.6m generated from over-the-counter bets. Customers wagered $194.5m in total, across both channels.
With revenue of $5.1m for September, Valley Forge Casino, which has partnered Flutter Entertainment’s FanDuel, comfortably led the market. Its share of 34.3% set it far ahead of Rush Street’s SugarHouse Casino, its nearest competitor with a 19.5% share.
Coming in third was Parx Casino, which like SugarHouse offers a Kambi-powered sportsbook.
Turning to igaming, with just three operators live – Parx, Penn National Gaming and SugarHouse – the vertical lags behind sports betting, though revenue climbed to $4.1m. The vast majority is generated through online slots, which accounted for $3.2m of the total.
Penn National currently leads the way in igaming, with market share of 43%, ahead of Parx on 31%, with SugarHouse bringing up the rear on 26%.
While the newly-regulated online casino and sports betting verticals are growing rapidly, September saw land-based gaming revenue dip. Slots revenue fell 8.7% month-on-month to $188.4m, with the total also representing a 4.0% year-on-year drop.
Table games also struggled, with revenue declining 2.4% from September 2018, to $70.6m.
